The Owl House
The Owl House is a show about the human Luz and how she becomes the first human witch (...) on the Boiling Isles which is ruled by the emperor Belos. Her adventure starts with entering the Boiling Isles for the first time where she first encounters Eda the Owl Lady.
Eda the Owl Lady is a fierce woman who is one of the only wild witches on the isles. Wanted-posters of her hang all over the region. But being a criminal doesn't define her personality. She is kind, helpful and ends up being Luz's mentor. Together they are figuring out how a human can practice magic, even without a witch's anatomy.
Already in the first season we find out the reason for Eda's title as the 'Owl Lady'. She has been cursed by someone (...) in the past and thereby transforms into an owl beast if she doesn't consume her medication on time or if her mental health finds trouble. Throughout the first season, her curse doesn't become easier to handle. Thereby making her easier to be catched by the emperor. To get the Owl Lady's attention, the emperor's coven catch her little adopted daugther, Luz the human. Her catch was followed after a witch's duel with her own sister, in which it is revealed that it was her, who has cursed Eda. This revelation and the threat of the human Luz's life makes her lose control and the owl beast takes it for itself. After her catch, she was released with the help of the human. The release didn't stop the owl beast from keeping the control though, which is why her sister decides to take part of it, to make up for the past to some degree. In the second season the show explores more of Eda's relationships and goes in depth with the one she has with Luz and King. We see more of her love for her adopted daugther Luz and her adopted son King and how she struggles to keep them safe.
There isn't much to say besides that I just like her. She is cool and ROCKS being the head of the Bad Girl coven.
Steven Universe
Steven Universe is a show about the half-human half-gem Steven Universe and the Crytsal Gems. In his adventures he learns how to use his gem-powers better, what gems are in the first place and who his mother is. One of the first gems, outside of the Crystal Gems, he gets to know is Peridot.
Peridot is a Era two peridot gem made on Homeworld. Her mission was at first to check upon an experiment called 'The Cluster' within the earth's core. This mission fails though, because the Crystal Gems are destroying her robots which do her her dirty work on earth. So she reaches out for an escort (Jasper) and for information (Lapis Lazuli) to get assistance for that. After having put up a fight with the Crystal Gems, both of her travel partners dissapear within a fusion and she is stuck on earth. now that her spaceship is destroyed. Later she has been captured by the Crystal Gems and Steven decides to show her the earth and teach her about the human socialization. Together, they build up a friendship and stop the Cluster from emerging with the help of Steven's family. Later on she discovers that she has metal bending powers.
This design of her is from the finale of the show. I added some fingerless gloves because SHE WOULD FUCKING WEAR THEM U CANT TELL ME SHE WOULDN'T and metal boots (inspiration: TLOZ:TP), so she mustn't wield the bin lid with herself around the entire time. The jacket was just because I thought it would be neat, no big thought put behind that.
Faust (Goethe)
Faust I is a tradegy which discusses humanity and how your own desires may ruin your fellow's life (Gretchen tragedy). Throughout the story we follow doctor Johann Faust, a man who absolved all four study programms. He has long lost joy in life and tries to distance himself from his humanity, and yet, is reminded of it almost everyday. Because of that, he tries to commit suicide, but backs off after the easter bells awake a silent part of himself. Soon after, he will meet upon one of the perpetrators for the bells and makes a deal with them, in hope to bring back the long lost joy in his own life. The one perpetrator we will know as Mephistopheles.
Mephistopheles is first introduced within the prolouge within heaven, talking to god and gossiping about their work. Afterwards he makes a deal with God, whether he can make Faust unredeemable or whether he fails and becomes one of God's children again (...). Throughout the rest of the story, we the reader experience how Mephistopheles tempts and seduces Faust, therefore getting him closer to the point of being unredeemable.
His looks are never described in detail, but you can nonetheless find some descriptions at times.
Mephistopheles is first and foremost an allegory for Faust's addiction. He gives Faust everything he doesn't have but nonetheless needs in order to feel satisfied. His serving role to Faust fills this human's ego, pride, lust, greed and wrath like nothing else before. Without Mephistopheles, Faust would still be locked within his own room, with no escape on sight besides the little posion flask on his shelf.
But besides that, I also think he is kind of an allegory for queer people. HEAR ME OUT- I don't mean that in a negative way. Multiple times (Auerbach's basement, The Witch's Kitchen, Walpurgisnacht) it's mentioned how he must adapt his physical form among Faust's society, as his normal appearance will scare people away (e.g. v.2499-2502, 4062-4065). To serve Faust among his own people (thereby giving him socialization, which he lacked before), he must adapt to them. But he is far from comfortable with that, even being mocked to a certain degree for trying (e.g v. 2184). As a trans person, I connect with that all too well. When I first started expressing myself in a masc manner, people treated me worse than before. I was only able to express myself in a masc manner without judgement among 'my people' (fellow queers), just as much Mephistopheles can only show his 'true form' among 'his people' (people shunned by society, such as the witch) (e.g. The Witch's Kitchen, Walpurgisnacht).
